City Tech Event Showpiece
New York City College of Technology (City Tech) celebrated the official opening of its new $410M Academic Complex on Feb 14, 2019

About the Piece
“I was commissioned by the chair of the Hospitality Department and the head of the baking and pastry chefs at the college to create a showpiece. The piece was to be presented as the centerpiece of the dessert table at the official ribbon cutting and opening of the new City Tech building, which now stands where the old gym and auditorium once stood.
Because the ribbon cutting was to be done on Valentine’s Day, that served as my inspiration. I wanted to incorporate Valentine’s Day as well as the college colors and something to relate to the school. So I figured I would make the heart (which stands on the very top of the piece) , abstract, because it represents a union. Not necessarily male and female. I incorporated the school colors in the spheres and I made the monogram of the school ( I figured it was the most recognizable thing about the college). I also added some of Cupid’s arrows and a flower to further enhance the Valentine’s Day theme.”
